Where do died satellites go?

There are two things that can happen to a satellite. The first thing that can be is "spacecraft cemeteries" and the next thing to be is "Graveyard orbits". For the closer satellites, engineers will use its last bit of fuel to slow it down so it will fall out of orbit and burn up in the atmosphere. But when they are too far they are sent out of Earth's orbit.

space cemeteries

when they are near eath satellites are out of work they are sent to the Earth's atmosphere by burning their engine last time with their last fuel. Causing the orbit of the satellites to reduce to the atmosphere of eart where Earth's gravity and atmosphere drag to drag and burn it.

But when thing is bigger like a space station their donot burn while the time they meet the surface of earth. If they are not reach a specific destination where there is no human civilization it should be a major disaster. Which is why engineer come to a plan for the final destination of their old satellites to make sure that any debris falls into a remote area. This place even has a nickname—the Spacecraft Cemetery! It’s in the Pacific Ocean and is pretty much the farthest place from any human civilization you can find.

Grave yard orbit

For satellites which is farther from earth typically it's impossible to reduce their orbit to a position where they could drag and fall to earth except if they have lots of fuel. There is a plan they are sent farther out 200 miles more further from From the furthest satellites they are working.

Some of they stuck in orbit for a long duration but some may go further from the orbit of the Earth where it could leave to interstellar space and throne away further, further each day.
